ARBIRATION COURT.
The Arbitration Court commenced its sitting at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before His Honor Mr Justice Chapman, and Messrs Slater and Brown. WHARF LABORERS.
Applications in connection with alleged breaches of the wharf laborers’ award were withdrawn. CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION.
Annie Marie Larseo, Wairoa (Mr Stock) v. J. J. Parker and W. J. Bell (McNolbd), claim £312, on the death of her husband, who was drowned. Joseph Thomas Glover (Mr Stock) v. Amelia C. Neill (Mr Eton), olaim for wages duriog incapacity. Adjourned until to day. SADDLERS’ UNION.
The Auckland Siddlers' Union applied for an award, the Gisborne employers being oited to appear before the Court. No representative of the Union appeared. Mr Morgan asked that a concession, which was made seme years ago, be included in tha award, that employers be allowed to give theic men Thursday afternoon instoad of Satutdiy. His Honor said tborc might bo some misunderstanding as to when tho case was to be brought on. TAILORS' UNION.
His Honor granted an application to hear evidence in this case at Auckland. BAKERS' UNION.
An application that tbe Auokland award be extended to this district. Mr W. Nisbett appeared for tbo Union. Mr Harrison, representing Mrs A. Stevens, Patutahi, stated that 4 a.m. was too late for bakers, who lived ten miles from Gisborne, ta start work. His Honor said there was a special clause for Rotorua, so that they could work with the coaobos. It provided that the hours of starting be not earlier than four o’clook, except on Saturday and the day precoding a public holiday, when it might be one hour earlier, aud in the event of a doublo holiday work might oomtnonoo too hours earlier on tbo day preceding. Employers in other parts of the district might fix the hours acoordiDg
to their rrquirrmenls. Mr Simpson said that if tbe starting horns on Mondiys and Tnursday was fixed at 3 a.m. it would suit, as they had
to send bread out by the 7 o'clock ceaohes. His Honor said he would note this to apply to tho district witbia a radius of six miles of the Gisborne Post Office ; those outside of this district to start when rrquired.
PAINTERS’ AWARD.
Mr G. E. Daiton a-sked tho Court for an interpretation of clauses cno and nine of the painters’ award, which were not in accord with one another- Tho masters aod men applied. The Court adjourned until this mornirtg, when tbe compensation eases will be J beard.
