RAILWAY FATALITIES.
ANOTHER SHOCKING DEATH. CLERK GOES BETWEEN THE TRUCKS. (Per Press Asaociatlcn.j Christohurob, Saturday. About 5 o’olock this afternoon another railway fatality occurred, which caused the death of Joseph Thornton, a olerk wbo was employed in the goods yards at the Christohuich railway station. It is alleged that Thornton, who was on the south side of the train, wished to get over to the northern side, and for that purpose went between the truoks when the train was at a standstill. However, the driver did not notioe what had happened, and started to shunt the trucks. Toe sudden jerk probably oaused Thornton to fall, and the trucks parsed over him, cutting him about severely, and nearly severing one of hie arms. When picked up he was alive, but expired shortly afterwards. It is stated that the deceased was a married man, and lived in Obrisicburch.
An inquest touching tho death of Wm. Buoklsy (a w-ggoner employed by Mr Acton Adams), killed by the seoond express from tbo South last evening when entering the Ohristohuroh station, was held this afteinoon, A verdiot was returned that deceased met his death by being aooidentally rnn over by the express train.
AN INQU-EST. (Per Piess As*oclaMon.) Christohurob, last night. An inquest was held at the morgue today, touching the death of Joseph Thornton, railway employee, who was killed by being run over by.a train in th» Christchurch yard yosterday afternoon. Evidence was given to tho effect that deoeased was crossing the yard when he was run over by seme trucks that were being shunted. From tha evidonoe given by the driver and railway porter, it aeomed that deceased was making his way across tho couplings between two truoks when ’he tra’n moved. Both driver and porter stated they did not see him when the signal to etarl was given. Deoeased hid been subject to fits lately. A verdiot was returned that death was accidental.
