MR R. G. KNOWLES.

A CELEBRATED ENTERTAINER.

Considerable interest was manifested in the appearanoe of Mr R. G. Knowles, the world famed comedian and entertainer at flis Majesty’s Tneatre on Saturday evening, and the large audienoe present were unanimous in the opinion that the enter* tainment was the best of the kiod ever given in Gisborne. It is a hard task set ! an artist to keep an audienoe laughing for upwards of two hours, but it can fairly bo claimed that this is easily achieved by Mr Kuowles, and it is done in a manner that the audienoe never tire, being eent home with the feeling that the entertainment wsb all too Bhort. Mr Knowles’ entertainmont is distinctly original, aDd his stories are told with a freshness and orispoese •hat appeals to anyons possessed of the slightest degree of humor. From' tbe moment the anist stepped on the sixes he held the coee attention of the audienoe, and laughter r-igned supreme throughout' •he evening. Ttn-i e were so many excellent items that it is hard to say which are the best, but perhaps Mr Knowlee appeared ta the greatest advantage on 8a u day evening in the numbers, » Qa the Benches in the Paik,” '-Love Marriage, and Divoroe,” and ‘f All the i Qtrls are Nice. 1 ' The performanpethrough. * out was followed wiih the keenest interest and tbe artist ean fairly ] ay o l aitn tQ the ' distinction of being one of the first monologue entertainers in the world. Mrs R G. Knowles greatly pleased the audienoe with her banjo items, several se/eotions of a popular kind being given. She was heartily applauded on each appearanoe. A number of biograph pictures wer6 shown to great advantage during tbe evening. Mr Knowles will make his second appearanoe this evening, when he should ba greeted with a crowded houso.
