Wellington, last night, j The enoual meeting of the Council of Fire Underwriters’ Associations of New Zealand has just concluded in Wellington after a sitting extending over three days. The question of tariff rates was not dealt with, but it was decided that on premises having an eleotrioal oonnection 5 per cent, will be added to existing rates, ud» less a certificate for such installation is obtained from the Electrical lospector of the associated offices. Mr James Buttle, general manager of the New Zealand Io snranoe Company, was elected president for tbe ensuing year. An election was held to-day to select a member of tbe City Council, one of the Councillors having resigned. There were nine candidates. Mr John Smith, a former Connoillor, was returned. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Thos.
