NEW ZEALAND.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night, Messrs Keir Hardie, M.P., and Ramsay Macdonald, M.P., have written to local residents bearing upon the proposed visit of these notable labor leaders in the Old Country to New Zealand. Mr Hardie writes: “ Iho arrangements for the visit of the Labor M. P.’s depend upon whether an autumn session will be held or not, and we shall not know that for some timo.” Mr Macdonald says : “I am afraid we shall be very careful in New Zealand, as we really want to see and hear all sides. We are still doubtful as to whether we should accept invitations to address purely political meetings, unless they aro got up on broad labor lines. We shall have to use greatest discretion, so as to fulfil the programme we have before us.”
Owen Brosnahan, at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, pleaded guilty to nine charges of burglary, theft of jewellery and money to the value of £125. The burglaries had been persistent and systematic. He was committed for sentence.
Samuel McShane, who was brought back from England on a charge of the theft of jewellery from a pawnbroker’s shop, valued at £173, reserved his defence in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, and was committed for trial.
Dunedin, last night. The Star Bays the double train service bet ween Christchurch and Dunedin is likely to ho discontinued in the winter, and resuscitated during October to May. It is an open secret that the dual train daily does not pay.
