Towards the end of last year a scheme was plaaed before the Auckland House Painters’ Union by one of its members for Ihe federation of the whole of tho House Painters’ Unions in New Zealand. It wee decided to circularise the other unions in the oolony to ascertain their viewß on tho question. Tuis was done, and favorable replies were received from alt the painters' unions (10) except Dunedin. It has now been dcoided to oall a conference of delegates, to be held at Wellington on April 17tb, after the meeting of the local union. Reoently Mr Philip Birch (vioe president) was ohos3n to represent the union at the conference. He leaves for Wellington cn Friday next,
