The loduslries and Commerce Department have receive 1 the following eable from the High Commissioner, dated London, April 7 : The mutton market is quiet as the result of heavy arrivals. The arrivals from January and two following months totalled 196,243 caroas’s. Trade for all ola3ees has been very slow, and prices ate barely maintained. Fine quality is eoaroe. The average price for Canterbury brand is 4 i i, and for other than Canterbury brand ii 411 per lb. The limb maiket is weak, the supply exceeding the demand. The average price for Canterbury lamb is 5 1 BJ, and other brands 4Jd per lb. The beef market is quiet. Supplies of Rivor Plate beef are heavy. The average price for New Zealand hindquarters is 3£d, and forequarters 2 3 81 per lb. The butter market is dull. Stocks are heavy and buyers are holding back, expecting priors to go lower. Some holders are foroing sales. The aversgo price of oboicest New Zealand butter to-day is 983. Danish is quoted at 109 j pe.f owt. There is a good demand for cheese at the prices cabled last week. The hemp market is quiet with a tendency in favor of buyers. The average prioe of G F.A.Q. Wellington on spot to-day is L 32. April to June shipments are quoted at L 32 per lod. The stock on hand is 447 tons, against 1151 tons for the corresponding period of last year. There is a better dsmand for cocksfoot. The market is firm, and 171 b bright clean seed is worth 58s psr bushel. New Zaalaud long-berried wheat, on spot, is quoted at 31s 6J; short-berried wheat, 31s per quarter ex granary. The market is firm with more inquiry. New Zsalaad Sparrow B.lls oats are worth 23s 6d per 3841 b», Bnd Danish oats 19s 6d per 3201bs ix granary, with more demand showing. New Zealand beans sold by crop P.A.Q. quoted at 35s per SOllbs, New Zsalaud partridge peas 40s per SOlibs, New Zealand blus peas 53i par 5041b5, with a quiet but steady demand.
