An inquiry into the recent Gembrook railway accident found that it was causod by the train being run at an excessive speed. Archbishop Clarke speaks hopefully of the possibility of closer union of Anglicans and Presbyterians. OwiDg to the Eastern Extension Company refusing to ratify tho agreement with the Federal Government, as modified by the Senate, the Government have discontinued the privileges enjoyed under the provisional agreement, and disconnected the company’s land line. Cable messages have now to be taken to the central office, the same as ordinary messages. The company and the mercantile community strongly complain 'of the inconvenience caused by the peremptory action of the Government. MrDeakin says the company kept the Government waiting an unduly long time over the agreements. Rights wore granted in full belief that the agreement would bo ratified. The company enjoyed them for three years, and the Commonwealth received nothing in return. The secretary of the Postal Bureau says the Department has merely carried out the provisions of the agreement.

Mr Kidston, the Premier, declared that a good time was in store for Queensland. There was a record sugar crop, and a good surplus. He thought it possible the split in the Queensland Labor party would be fixed up.
