Tho dosirablenoss of soouring steamor communication between Auckland, Tauraoga, and Gisborne, via Opoliki and other way porta was before tho Council of tho Chamber of Oommoroo yostordoy. Mr Kent, in submitting tbo report of a oommittoo appointed to deal with tbo question, said that tho Committee oon. sidorod that the Chamber should urge on tbo shipping oompanios the need for establishing a cheap and regular sorvioo between tbo ports mentioned. Tho President (Mr J. b. MaoFarlane) said at present tho Union Company did not run to Tauronga, aud tho Northern I Company did not go beyond tho East Capo. The opinion was expressed that tho oxiatonoo of any arrangement botwoon tbo oompanios shoull not bo allowed to stand in tbo way of soouring tho desired sorvioo.

Mr S. J. Nathan pointed out that three other steamers wore already starting in tho trade.

It was dooided to adopt tho Committee's rcoommondatioD.
