(Per Press Asaooiation.) Auckland, last night At the annual meeting of the Birken. head and Northoote Fruitgrowers’ Asao oiation it was resolved to earnestly request the Government when the quo.-tion of tariff revision is entored upon to allow the duties upon imported green fruits to remain as at present, with the added provision that imported lemons bo plaoed upon the same rato of duty as plums, peaches, apricots, etc., and further, that it would be unwise to remove or loasen the present regulations in connection with grapes grown outside the oo'ony. Chief Inspector Petrie, in his report on Auckland echools for the year 1905, says : —After considerable experience of the now syllabus, there exists among teachers a vory general feeling that it is still overloaded. It would bo premature to express a decided opinion, Walter Sohofield, an ex-attendant at Auckland Mental Hospitil, was fined L 5 with costs by the Stipendiary Magistrate to-day for assaulting a lunatic patient; The evidtnea showed that defendant during a struggle used unnecessary violence, giving the patient two black eyes, The case was brought at the iustauoe of Dr, Beattie, superintendent.
