SERIOUS MISTAKE.
Waihi, Saturday. An overdoso of tincture of opium to induce sleep was taken by Mr A. 0. Polly last night, and as a result he nearly lost his life. It appears that he has beon unable to sleep late'y, and purchasirg a shilling’s worth of laudanum yesterday afternoon he took a dose before toa. After the meal had been finished his wife noticed somothing unusual about him, and he stated that he had taken a drug, and upon sca'-ching his pockets Mrs Polly discovered an empty ounce phial, which had contained tinctnro of opium.
