CHATHAM ISLANDS.
THE PREMIER'S TODR.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, Saturday. The Premier and Attorney-General, who left Saturday on a surprise visit to the Chatham Islands, returned shortly after midnight. The Tutanekai reached the Chathams on Monday, after a rough passage, and anchored off Waitangi township. The people had no previous intimation of the visit, but the news of the Premier’s arrival spread rapidly, and the residents, with astonishing rapidity, assembled and extended a hearty welcome to the Premier. An address was hurriedly drawn up end presented to Mr Seddon, thanking him for visiting the Island, and trusting his visits in future would be more frequent. The Premier, replying, discussed educational and other necessities. On the run back the Tutanekai again had rough weather, and lost her port propeller. Bishop Julius, of Christchurch, re* turned with the Premier.
