WEEKLY REPORT.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The New Zea'and loternational Exhibition official weekly review of progress states: —

A scheme for the providing of accommodation for all visitors from Southland has been suggested to the Invercargill committee- A syndicate proposes to regulate the traffic of Southland visitors in an even sequenoe, and to provide a building for their accommodation, The schedules of the ale and Btout competition] are being amended, with the object of includiog a class for lager beer, as there is a probability of competition arising in this class from Australia. A number of applications have been received by the exhibition authorities from various organisations, tbs latest being one from the Women’s Christian Temperance Union of New Zealand, who are taking up space for the purpose of exhibiting the VBrions reform works carried out by that organisation in different parts of the world. The Rt. Hon. the Premier has received a cablegram from the Premier of Queensland, inquiring as to the terms and facilitioe which would be granted by the exhibition authorities to representative exhibits from that State. The secretary of the British and Foreign Sailors’ Sccioty in London has addressed a letter to the Premier, asking if it would be possible to have a small Victory stall. It would be appropriate for Trafalgar Day, October 21st, 1906, and could be made the centre of distribution of the small Victory ebarm and other Nelson articles. The society could send the original pieces of oak taken from the H.M.S. Victory, on whioh is written, " Here Nelson died”; also a small hast of Nelson.'

An application has been reoeived from Manchester, England, for space for a very extensive exhibit of apparatus and models, to aid in teaching engineering soienoe in the colleges and technical schools, and by whioh mechanical, eleotrical, and physical subjeots are illustrated; also drawing models and other app’iances, and a display of geometrical apparatus. At a meeting of the housing committee, held on Tuesday last, a resolution was j passed re’ative to general accommodation to the effect that that oommittee would guarantee accommodation for all persons visiting 1 the Exhibition for performing or offioial purposes during the New Zealand International Exhibition.

The housingcommittee are taking steps whioh will remove any doubts as to the necessary accommodation boing provided for visitors.

' Attention is drawn to the resolution passed at the meeting of tho licensed victiiallerg at Christchurch, wherein it was agreed that no substantial additions to the hotel tariffs were to be made during the period of the Exhibition, The Minister in obarge of the Cook Islands has applied for 700 feet of space for an exhibit of produce from the Cook Islands.
