While driving this afternoon Mrs (Dr) Fenwick and Miss Griffiths, matron of the Westland Hospital, Hokitika, met with a nasty accident, as the result of which Miss

Griffiths sustained severe injuries, including a fraotured elbow, which necessitated her removal to tbe ho>pital. At tbe time of tbe accident Miss Griffiths was on her way to visit tbe matron of tbe hospital. Mrs Fenwick, though bruised and shaken, was not seriously injured, The driver of the vehiole was not hurt.

Tbe Court of Appeal sat this morning to hear argument in the case of Rex v. Searby, on a point reserved by tbe Chief Justioe, when Searby was tried and convicted before him at Wanganui on a obarge of having obtained food end money by false pretences from a settler at Taibape. He obtained board and lodgings, and eventually he got an advanoe of £2 to enable him to go to Wellington to get his Dame placed on tbe medioal roll. Tbe case for the Crown was argued by Mr H. D. Bell, who also pot tbe converse side for the prisoner, who was not represented by oounsel, The chief point at issue is whether the representation by prisoner that be was a duly qualified medioal practitioner amounted tr representation that be was a duly registered practitioner, in other words whether “ con-registration ” means 11 non qualification.” The Court reserved its deoision.
