A RAILWAY COLLISION AVERTED (Per Press Association..) Ohriß'ohurob, last night. . ~'> A,.serious railway acoident was narrowly averted at Kaiapoi station yesterday morning. By some neglect the points on the mainline, tight opposite the pa’EOOgerplatfotm, had keen left open after the carriages of the’Ejreton branch line train bad been shunted from the platform, and the carriages were, as usual left standing about a ohain along tho loop line below the points. The train from the north, which as usual on Saturdays was a long and heavy one, was running into the siation at a Bpoed of eight or ten miles an hour, when the engine swerved on to the loop line. The engine ; driver piomptly applied the airbrake, and brought the train up with the lcoomotive within a few yards of the standing train.
