(Per Press Aseociation.) New Plymouth, last night. At the Supreme Court, after a trial lasting two and a half days, the jury failed to agree in the oase of Daniel M, C. L. Howie, charged with settiog a aeries of fires to the property of a neighbor at Matapn. A new trial was fixed for next Court sessions. Tirnaru, last night. The M. 0.0. beat South Canterbury by nine wickets. South Canterbury soored 98 each loniogs ; M. 0.0. 156 in the first innings, and 41 for one wioket in the second innings. Armstrong and Hansford (both In) soared 20 each. Christchuroh, last night. T. H. Bennett is unable to play in tho New Zealand team against Melbourne on Friday, owing to injury lo his right shoulder. T. Malone will fill the vacancy. Napier, last night, In the Supreme Court to-day Frank Dickenson, charged with perjury, was found guilty with a strong recommendation to meroy on account of his youth. He was admitted to probat'on for twelve months. George Walter Diokeinon was aho separately charged with perjury, but the jury failed to agroe, and a new trial was ordered.
