WELLINGTON HARBOR.
CARRIERS’ GRIEVANCES.
' (Fee Presa Association.) Wellington, last night. At to-day’s meeting of tho Harbor Board, a letter was read Carriers’ Union of Employers, oomplffining of delays caused by shortage of labor on the wharves.
The Secretary’s reply was that quicker despatch could not bo given with the present accommodation.
I A member of the Board said matters in this respect had roached a very aoute I state, and ho was convinced that tho manag ment of tho Board refused to supply I sufficient labor to cops with tho work. That was false economy, and resulted in I very grievous trouble, carriers being some I times unable to get goods for four, five, or seven days. He moved that a commiltee be set up to inquire into the matter. The Secretary sa : d that the whole secret of the matter was that tho sheds were too email for work accommodation, and the I Queen’s wharf was utterly insufficient, j The motion to set up a committee of I enquiry was agreed to, 1
