Fpr furious riding at Ormond a native youth Darned Herewinia Qa'pana, and a middle-aged native named Hope Raukura, wore fined respectively £1 and £2, costs 17s each. • For exposing infected Bheep for sale at Matawhero saleyards on the 14th ins 1, Wm. Leslie Eulledgo (Mr F. W. Nolan), Robert Campbell Miller (Mr Nolan), Hector Bruce MoAra (Mr B ight), and Edward Murphy (Mr Stock) pleaded guilty to having commiitrd the offence in ignorance, and were eaeh fined £3 and 7e COots,
Charges of assault wero preferred against Alfred Charles Gleeson and Oharles Brieakie at the Polios* Court yesterday. Both pleaded guilty. The police reported that a dispute hafi arisen, and the two men decided to fightdhe matter out. A rather amusing incident, ending in a happy retort, occurred during tbe visit of the Compensation Court to the floodaffeoted lauds in tbe OSokia drainage area. Bemg twitted about the matter afterwards, the farmer promptly replied, « Ob, its the usual thing; the farmer always carries the. lawyer on his back.’’.
The evidence of defendant in the case of Mary Rait (Wellington) v. John Rail (Mr Lysnar) was taken at the Mag's rate’s Court yesterday tnorniog. About three years ago, whan ‘be returned from the country, be ascertained that his wife bad gone to Wellington, Correspondence then passed between them, and he bod sent her money to return, but she did not do so, G® went to <; Wellington and made arrangements for her return to Gisborne. Oo his return he wrote and said the money was available for the passage, but received, no reply. Thorp had been no disagreement when complainant went away, and he had always been willing to pay her passage back and maintain her. A young men named Hugh Boyle, pleaded guilty at the Police Cou;t yesterday, to two charges 6f theft of bicycles, and was committed to the Sopromo Court at Auckland for Bentonce. The bioycles had been hired from Messrs Roland and Barlow, bicycle manufacturers, and disposed of to Mr W. J. Attwood, rooond* hand dealer.
