A message from Paeroa states that there was some excitement on the racecourse yesterday, when it was known a large number of persons were taken suddenly ill iu the refreshment room of the grandstand, The symptoms were ptomaine poisoniDg. Some of the victims were very "ill.'' ;Dr Smith attended to the sufferers. The list of suff'.rers inoludes Messrs A. Fielder, H. Bush, J. Hunt (stewards of the Jockey Club), A. Moresby, Mrs E. Shaw, Mrs Mon'gomery, Messrs Mackinnon, Mdler, and Biddick, of the police force. Most of tbom are now recovering, but Mrs Mon'gomery and Mr Fielder are still very bad. The food used at the refreshment booth has been taken oharge of by the police.
