AN APPEAL FROM THE GISBORNE CITY BAND. TO THE RESIDENTB OF GISBORNE AND SURROUNDING DIBTRICTB. SIR or MADAM,— At a Special Meeting of the Gisborne City Baod, held on 23rd February, 1906, in the Bandroom, it was decided to try and plaoe the Band on a better footing with the public of Gisborne, and on a par with the leading Bands of the Colony. To further this objeo’, the Band desire to plaoe their position before the people, so that any who desire to help will know exaoily what they are giving to. In the first plaoe, the whole of the Band’s property, and any that may .be added to it, is invested in the following gentlemen, as trustees for tbe people of Gisborne: Messrs J. W. Nolao, Majar Winter, A. G. Beerp, and J. Brown. Between those trustees and tbe Band a deed exists, with one olause to the effect that in the event of the Band breaking up, all the property becomes the people’s own. Another olause is, that the Band cannot finance on their property, as other bands do, which means that the Band must have the ready cash before new uniforms or instruments oan be provided.
This, as you see, makes it absolutely necessary, it the Band is to prosper, as the people’s Band of Gisborne, that it must be readily supported with subscriptions from the Publio. The assets of the Band at present are about £4OO, an inorease of about £3OO since thei deed was drawn up between the people and the Band. This will show that the financing of the Band has been, and is being, conducted in a businesß-like manner, and you may rely on the faot that any remits of this appeal will be used to the best advantage by the Band. The B vnd have eleoted the Mayor, John Townley, Esq., President for the ensuing year, and E, Morphy and Cyril White, Esqs, and the Hon, J, Carro'l have been approaobed, with a view to getting their s'ervioes as Vice-Presidents. The Band have also opened an Honorary Members’ L ! st, and as a rtsalt of sending esoh prominent citizen a oircalar, giving them the Band’s position, a number of gentlemen have already beoome honorary members of the Band, at a subscription of 10s fid i per anoum.
The Bind respectfully ask those who have reoeived circulars to do their best in the interests of au association whioh is Irying to make itself worthy of the district it represents; also, to those who have not received circulars, the Band ask them to forgive the oversight and send any Bubicript.ion for the Uniform Fund to the Band Secretary, who will be pleased to acknowledge them at a future date iD the daily papers. In oocc'usion, We remaiD, Yours respectfully (For the Band Committee), JOHN TOWNLEY, President ALICE M. BICKFORD, Hon, See, (P.0.80x N 0.41).41)
