Nolan also endorsed Mr Kennedy’s remarks. Roplying to the deputation, Mr Townley said he would accede lo their request and again offer his services. (Applause.) Ho did not desire to foroe himself into the position, and he would rather someone outside the Council had oome in. The works in hand were the most impoitant Gisborne bad ever undertaken, and he would do his best to seo that they were efficiently carried out. It certainly required someone to act as a check on some councillors when necsssary. The town had progressed greatly, and he hoped that tho incoming year would aleo be a moat progressive one. A committee was ' formed to secure Mr Townley’a return.
