(Per Press Association.) Invercargill, last night. St. Patrick’s sports, which were attended by 5000 people, were held in fine weather yesterday. The £4O ' Sheffield Handicap was won by D. Sanson (94yds). Owaka McLachlan (scr.) was "thrown out in semi final. He secured second place in 440 yds. A special meeting of the Harbor Board was held to-day to discuss engineers alternation schemes for the canal to Christchurch. After a long discussion the following motion was adopted, with one dissenting: “ That without committing the Board to any iof the schemes in the engineer’s report that the Board resolves that the Harbor Improvement Committee be instructed to communicate with the High Commissioner with the object of procuring the best possible expert^advice on the possibility and practicability of the scheme set out in the report, and also upon any other scheme for. connecting Christchurch with the sea that may commend itself to them after inspection of the remaining country, and the terms on which the set report would be obtained, and they, the committee, be authorised to forward all necessary papers in connection with 1 the matter.” It was also decided to refer report to tho Harbor improvement Committee to obtain information as to the finalcial aspect of the question, especially in reference to the 1 canal to Willons road, and to supply I a comparative cost in connection with i present railway rate.

Cbristchurcb, last night. Tho building sub-committee of the Exhibition have resolved, to recommend the erection of additional buildings in extension of original design to the amount of 90,000 feet. This will allow of Canadian exhibits being placed on the south side, and it will also utilise space now existing between I the art gallery and main building, thus continuing the promenade all round. Addition has been rendored necessary by tho largo number of applications for space received. Dunedin last night. Tho Hon. ,J. McGowan returned from tho South this evening, and proceeds to Christchurch to-morrow, when he will transact business in connection with the Exhibition which is now under his charge.
