Per Press ’Associaticnj Auokland, last night.

William Smith- and Alice Simeon were committed to trial to-day, charged with breaking and entering a shop at Newton, and stealing a small quantity of goods. Smith was also committed for attempting, to murder Constable Coppell, who said that when he chased prisoners after leaving, the shop Smith fired twice, shouting, “Keep back.” When arrested arevolver was taken from him, loaded in all but two chambers. The female accused made a statement to the effect that Smith opened the shop with a skeleton key. A witness who took part in the chase said the first bullet passed within two feet of the officer
