It was Eomewhat amusiDg to observe in a conspiouous place on tho chief polling boo'.h in town yesterday the announcement that refreshments were to be obtained inside. As the hotel? were closed, there were many enquiries for sometbjng to drink, but needless to say it was not forthcoming. The notioe referred to the sale of refreshments at His Majesty’s Theatre during the intervals at entertainments which tho management had forgotten to remove.
Very little interest was taken by the members of the liquor party in the election yesterday ; many of them did not take the trouble to vote. The no lioense party were fairly active in town, but in the oountry districts there was litt'e or no organisation. Out of between eight and nine thousand persons on the roll it is not expeoted that more than a third of the number took the trouble to record their votes.
