Ilia Majesty's Theatre was orowdedlast evening, (vhen the Rev. J. R. FJyun Anderson, chaplain H.M. forces 'in the Boer war, delivered a very instrubtivo and amusing lecture, entitled “ Camp F/re Yarnp,” on the New Zealand Contingent in the South African campaign. The leoture was under the auspices of the Gisborne volunteer officers, and the City Band marched down Gladstone load to HSr; MBjesiy’s Theatre prior to the lecture, play, iog patriptic tunes. volunteer. The lecture was illustrated by over 100 limelight views, the audience being taken an imaginary trip to Boutb Afrioa with one of the New Zealand Oon* t'ngents, and to the front, views of oamp life and battles being graphically portrayed, Mr Auderepn has obtained his stories at first hand, and he spins his budget of “ camp fire stories,” of whioh he is author, with a power of humor and patboy* which gains him ihe oloseßt attention of ihe aud’eoce, and oarrieß them with bipi right into the very thipk of the oampaign. Mr Anderson is a very able speaker, and be tells bis stories with a breeziness that smacks of their native veldt, The lecturer has gathered his stories around many strange camp fires, and they cover a wide raDge. Some of the items were : Landing of men and horses at Port Elizabeth, entraining in ooal trucks for the front, scenes along the railway line, block-houses and general defences, views of oamp life, a battle described bow the New Zealanders fought at Bothasberg, town guard defenoeß, martial law revelations, original pictures of the Boers »ken during the war, etc.
