(Per Press Association.)
Dunedin, last night. Tbe arrival on Saturday night from the North of Messrs Duncan, Casey, Booth, Macdonald, and Stead of the New Zealand football team, was the occasion of a scene of great enthusiasm, and thousands wdoomed the Southern contingent at the railway station. A public welcome wbs tendered the returned footballers by the Otago Rugby Union at the Garrison Hall, when tbe building was crowded to excess, the platform being fully occupied by a representative gathering of citizens and politicians, among tbe latter boing the Hon Mr McGowan, Minister of Mines, Mr F. H. Campbell (President of the O.R.F.U), and the Mayor of Dunedin, AH extended the footballers a hearty welcome back. Mr Steßd, in replying on behalf of the t°am, took occasion to refute tbe report that there had been internal friction in the team in tbe Old Country. He said such a rumor was without foundation. They had always been a particularly happy family. The other members of the team also responded briefly. Tho Kaikorai Band was in attendance.
