SCHOOL PICNIC.
The annual picnic cf the Gisborne District High School was held on Saturday last at the Victoria Domain, which was kindly handed over to the commitloa by the Poverty Bay Cricket Association. Glorious weather prevailed, eni there was a fair attendance of adults, while the little folk seemed to be numberless, and spread themsel'.es out over all parts of the large fi. Id, The children were divided into sections in order to contest the athletic events, and each seotion was allotted a special part of the ground to show their prowess. The members of the teaching staff, who had charge cf the races, worked undefatigably, and the school committee also worked hard to promote the success of the gathering. The new grandstand was taken over by the lilliputiaDS, and was transformed for the nonoe into a veritable Tower of Babel. With the games and races in progress in all parts of the Domain the scene, viewed from omoDg't the children on the Btand, was a particularly bright and animated one. Amongst the teachers who worked bard to ensure the success of tte gathering were noticed: Messrs ManD, Rowley, Leslie, Wauchope, Kinder, Cowan , and lady tsacherp. There was a la r ge supply of edibles, which was supervised J by an energetic committee of ladies, ino'uding Mesdames Church, AudersoD, Stuckey, Solvander, Luttrell, Bousfield, Rowley, and Leslie.
