AUCKLAND-GIBBORNE RAILWAY.

The Auckland Star reports :—A meeting of the Auckland Bailway League, at whioh the Auokland M.H.R.’s were invited to be present, disoussed the best means of getting the Auokland Gisborne and Stratford Ongaruß lines pushed on with more speed. It was resolved tooommunioate with the Hon. J. Oarroli, in whose electorate Gisborne is, and ask bis advice as to the procedure of the league. Apologies were received from Messrs F. Liwry, J. Bollard, MES'i, Messrs Poole and Fowlds, M H. 8., beiDg out of the cslony. Messrs Baume and Kidd, M.H.B’s, after herring a verbal report from Mr Jas. S-ewart, U.E., of the council of the loigue, as to the rou'e horn Gisborne, which he explored some years ago, promised their hearty assistance in endeavoring during the coming session to obtain votes for both of these important pubiio works.

The question cf sending a representative fiom Auckland to Gisborne and Stratford to stir up agitation there was left for another meeting to be oalled by the council in about a week’s time, as this is a financial quist’oo whioh will depend upen the support afforded to the league by the public. As to the route to be followed in constructing the Auckland Gisborne railway, the Tauranga Council forwarded the following resolution “ That this oounoil is decidedly in favor of the continuation of the railway from Waihi though Tauranga to Te Poke, and down the East Ccast.”

The Waihi Borough Oounoil sent the following resolution 1 11 That this council desires to express its opinion in the most emphatic way that the route to be followed should be via Waihi, Katikati, Tauranga, and on to Opotiki.”
