CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING,

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Four hundred and twenty eatries have

oen reoeivod for the Now Zealand obam pionship meeting opening at 8 a.m. tO' morrow at Trontham. Only on ono occasion has this number been exceeded. That was in 1897, during the time of the Dunedin Exhibition, tho shooting taking plaoe at Wingatui. Many of tbo mon oa that occasion only entered for ono or two matohes. Last year 883 competitors took part, 24S volunteers and 140 riflo clubs* mon Thi3 year tho:o aro about 266 volunteers and 154 clubsmtn. Later.—All airangements at Trontham for the fifth annual moating of tho Defence Forces Rifia Association meeting, which opens to morrow, are completed. Ths total number of competitors entered for the va-ious matohes is 428, which is beI yond the expectations of Colonel Collins, j and constitues a record for any of the ! Ride Association’s meeting in tho colony. Tents to the number of 110 have been pitobed for their accommodation, and as tbo Association has again undertaken its own oatering, no complaints under that head are anticipated. Tho weather appears to be settled, and if it continues fine during the week tbo meeting will terminate next Saturday.
