Mr Wilson’s Bill, which provides for supplying meals to the underfed, and if the looal education authority think fit to any other school children, and recovering the cost from parents able to pay, has been read a eecond time without division. Messrs Birrell and Burns supported the Bill, promising after the select committee stage, that Government time will be given for the remaining stages, with the view to ( passing it in 1906 ' Mr Harold Cox’s amendment that feeding the children wcp’d diminish parental responsibility was " not seoonded. He a»gued that it would next be necessary to supply boots, clothes, and children’s barrrcks, The Timer, commenting on the Bill, slates there is a certain rough justioe in the ntw demtnl, though probably it will end in supplying boots and clothes. Mr W. H. Lever, mornber for Wirral, moves that it is urgently required that members of the Houee of Commons should reoeive £3OO a year, and that all returning offioere’ charges should be paid out of rates. Received 5.5 p.m., Maroh 4. I Sir Edward Clarke, Bpeaking at Hoiborne, said he was convinced the party was unable to hope to recover its influence in the country councils unloss it freed iteelf absolutely and completely from any proposal for tho taxation of corn and meat.
