A contested olectian for the Taranaki Licensing Committee wi 1 probably be avoided, a compromise having been affected between the Couucil of Churches and licensed victualler? ta allow tho Mayor of New Plymouth to select a fifth representative on the Bench, the other four nominations having been agreed to. The compromise ha? been facilitated by the licensed victuallers’ representative at tbo conference agreeing to 10 o'clock closing as at presens.
