■William Alfred Nobee, alias Alfred Kiog, was brought beforo Mr Kettle, S.M., at the Po’iee Court this afternoon, charged with a lengthy list of frauds upon a number of tradesmen and busmens men of tho city, the frauds involving in all a sum of about £32, in connection with no less than fourteen information?. Chief Detective Mareock stated that in regird to a number of the offences prisoner had worked up a rather ingenious scheme. He had written letters from himself to himself, letters purporting to bo from his father, and tuokiDg over lo accused a sum of money amounting to £250, and a con« siderablc amount of landod proporty. Ho went to various tradesmen and obt lined goodp. He likewise obtained several sums of money. The prisoner pleaded guilty to all chargee, stating in extenuation tbat ho had lost a lot of money in the boot trade, and being pressed for rnoDoy reeortsd to this recourse to obtain funds. The Magistrate sentenced accused to one month’s imprisonment on each charge, sentences to be cumulative, thus bringing the total up to fouiteen months’ imprisonment.
