THE NE W GEYSER.
Shortly after eight o’clock on Wednaafiny morning nows w as received at Rotorua by telephone from Waimnngu tbat R new geyser hud broken out, and fiorn tde particulars given tho eruptions .esembled very rnuoh those of Watmangu. Great excilomono was at once aroused, and colours tvere soon in docuand, aod were on tho way out iu a vory Bhort jure. Tbo following particulars come from a rohabJo Source : At half-past sovon o’clock this morning a email orator, on tho orown of tho Black Grater Hill, near Waimangu, buret into eruption, and continued to play until halfpass olovon. It is situated on the top of the hill, and shots wore thrown by it to a hoight of 250 ft, the material being similar to that emitted by Waimangu geyser. It was a grand and imposing spootacle. At first tho eruptions were within about a second of eooh other, the first four going about 250 ft above the new shelter shed. They were witnessed by a few spectators, who had arrived from Waiotapu. Some 60 visitors "who travelled from Rotorua were less fortunate, as they only beheld tho eruptions from a distance of about two miles away, and by tho time (boy had roached the locality the great aotivity had ooased, ,r The site of the eruption is on old crater, and is about 50ft below the shelter shod, As the latter is quite 200 ft above Waimanga basin, and the übw geyser sent mud end water of a black nature almost identical with that thrown up by Waimangu to a height of 260 ft above the shelter shed, some idea of tho speotaolo may be imagined. Tho orator whero the goysnr broke out is the only one that was not active during the eruption of Torawora in 1886. The mud and water were thrown on to the traok used by visitors mr.kiog tho round trip, but the bulk of it went into wbat is known as tho Blaok Orator.
