THE SPEKE WRECK.
By telegraph, Press Ass’n, Copyright Melbourne, Feb. 24. Tbe Speke lies ou the rocks 100 yards from the headland. There is no hope of eaving her. Heavy seas are battering the vessel to pieoes. The cabin boy, Kingcross, accompanied tbe mate in his plucky swim with a line ashore. One man oame ashore under aa upturned boat, and escaped by kicking a hole through the plankiDg. After landing, the crew obtained the assistance of a shepherd, and then tramped eight miles in an exhausted condition to Cowes. Some of the men resent the captain’s statement that ho wao compelled to give a load in leaving the vessel.
