MANGAHEIA V. POVERTY BAY Tho final for Mr A. B. Williams’ Cup was played at the Polo Tournament on Saturday between the Manga - heia and Poverty Bay firsts. There wefe over 200 spectators presont to witness the game, who were rewarded by seeing one of the most interesting and keenly fought contests ever played on a local ground. The teams were evenly matched, the Mangaheia’s hav ing hotter combination, while the Poverty Bay quartette had the advantage of being piloted by that redoubtable poloist J. R Murphy, who ha ß the knack of being in all parts of the field at the same time, and always in the right place at the right time M. Murphy led the Coast team, ihe issue was in doubt until within five minutes of the call of time, both sides having secured sis goals, when Mangahoia added another to their score, and although the Poverty Bay men made strenuous efforts to equalise matters, the whistle sounded without further score.
Mr S. Williamson carried the whistle. Mesdames 'Sy'illiamson and R. J. Reynolds provided afternoon tea. The tournament will be continued to-day, and will bo concluded to-morrow,
