Tho Povorty Bay Polo Association's piotureeque grounds at Makauri presented an animated appearance yesterday afternoon when the tournament matches were resumed. Tbero was a good attendance, and keen interest was taken in tho play. The Mangatos, comprising Messrs Butledge, Spenoe, Baid and Palmer, made a first appearance before tho public and , astonished everyone by their fine horse- ‘ man Lp and all-round ability. Their ! scarlet uniforms added to tho smartness of their appearance. They suffered defeat, , as many an older and more experienced j quartette have done, at the hands of the Mangaheia’s I Wnipiro I defeated Mangaheia 11. after a hard game by 11 to 3. Poverty Bay I. and 11, met in the Senior Cup matoh, the former winning by 18 to 2. Meeara Williamson, W. Sberratt, J. B. and M. Murpby acted as umpires. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Meadamea W. G. Sberratt and J. B. Murphy. Play eommeoces at two this afternoon, when the final for Mr Wiiliam’d Cup will be played between MaDgaheia and Poverty Bay. This should prove a great struggle, and lovers of the mallet and willow root who attend this match should bo rewa-ded by witnessing a fine exhibition of this exciting game. The teams will be as follows: —Poverty Bay (blue and white), Messrs Monckton, B. and T. Sberratt, and J. B. Murphy. Mangaheia (white and green), Mossrs G- and B, Beynolds, and Balph and M. Murpby. Waipiro I. and 11. will meet in the Handicap Cup.
