FALSE PRETENCES.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. At the Police Court this morniog no less than 14 charges of theft and false pro tences involving sums ranging from, '7s to £6 5s were preferred against a young man named VVilliam Alfred Nobes, alias King. Chief Detective Marsack said tbo charges were the result of a long series of false pretences, mainly by means of valueless oheques, and as it was necessary for many of them to be heard before a Magistrate, he would a:k for a remand until Monday j Accused made no objection) and a remand I was granted.
