THE EXHIBITION.
OFFICIAL REVIEW. (For Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The Now Zealand international exhibition weekly official review of progress s'fates that the general manager of the New Zealand railways has informed the executive commissioners that his Department intends to be represented on a large scale at the coming exhibition, and for that purpose will require approximately 13,000 feet of spaoe, as a considerable portion of the exhibits will consist of rolling stock. Some of the waggon exhibits wili be plaoed outside the building if it should be found that there iB not snfficient space available. Applications have been received from lavercargill, on behalf of the Southland exhibitors, for space amounting to 3360 feet.
The tender of Mr W. W. Smith fot the erection of Ihe machinery hall (which will measure 310 feet) has been accepted, and the work will be put in hand at once. It forms a continuation of the present frontage to the river, extending to the north. Tbe amount of the contract is £9570.
Tbe applications for space this week show a considerable increase on any similar period, and dnriog the present month applications have been reoeived from Christchurch amounting to 3201 feet, and from Wellington for 2262 feet. Several of the provincial districts desire
to be represents!! at the exhibition in separate courts; an! applications in this direction for a large amount of spaoe have been received. It has been decided to grant their request, and spaoe will be reserved accordingly. In connection with tho Southland
representation, a Riverton firm intend to exhibit a model of a gold mine fully equipped and ia working order, showing the whole process of gold-saving. A letter ha? been received from tbs

Tha Executive Commissioners have re* ceived a cable from Mr H. J. Soott, Australian representative for the International Exhibition to the elfeot tbat the South Australians have taken a thousand feet of space for wine exhibits and another thousand feet for Government exhibits; also tbat he has arranged for several other large orders for space on behalf of Vio* torians.
The Superintendent of tho Department of Agriculture of the Fiji Government has written to tho Executive Commissioners stating that the space already applied for by tbat Department is found t,o be insufficient, and a larger space will tberefere be required. Great interest is being taken in Fiji in the International Exhibition, and - the exhibits sent from there will be of the most interesting description.
