This Club has been singularly fortunate in the past in the matttr of trophies and prizes for competition, as instanoe tho season just dnished, when trophies to the value of £l2 were competed for, and the fact that tho Club has an average of over twenty competitors at eaoh competition, shows that members are keenly alive to tho value of the trophies. But good as the past season has been tbo ensuing cue bids fair to eclipse it, as at the annual meeting held on the 10th February Mr David O’Neill, of Obuka, promised the handsome donation of £10; this was fur[her supplemented immediately by Mr B. Lambert and Mr J. Davey each adding a guinea to it upon learning the conditions of the rnatoh imposed by Mr O’Neill. The meetiog was also informed that Messrs Twigg and Powdrell had eaoh donated a guiuoe, the foimet’a for a prize for the most consistent shot throughout the year. Mr M. P. Chapman gave a gold medal and silver medal for the Committee to allot, and this was further supplemented by the Clab votiDg £5 of its funds to be spent in trophies. The conditions of Mr O'Neill’s matoh will no doubt be highly approved of by all military loaders as tending to enoourage that particular form of rifle shooting so essential in actual warfare. Following are some of the principal conditions : The rnatoh Bhall be opeo to all European reeideots over 18 years of age in the Wairoa Couoty, a'sj all members of rifle clubs or volunteers in that County.
