AN ALARMING REPORT.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. The Star’s Baratonga correspondent (vritsa: —It ia stated on good authority ihat it is the inieotion of the French Go pornment to send an official to Tahiti and idjaoent French islands for the purpose of eporting on their suitability as a conviot settlement, with Tahiti as a base. If the report is favorable provision will be made ior deporting 8000 oonviots.
