Tbe New Zealand International Exhibition weekly official review of progress states that LSOO has been authorised by Government to enable the Hon. Sir J. G. Ward to obtain statuary for decorative purposes in the grand hall of the Exhibition. The committee have also suggested that Sir J. G. Ward should obtain, if possible, during bis visit to Italy a small loan collection ot statuary. During tbe absence of the Hon. Sir J. G. Ward from tbo colony the International Exhibition will be administered by tbo Hod. J. McGowan. Inquiries have been received from South Africa relative to space beiog provided for tbe exhibition of a very fine collection of pictures. Applications for spaoe are coming in very rapidly both from oyersea and within the colony. The Department of Tourist aud Health Resortt has applied for 1600 ft of spaoe in whioh to display photographs, paintings, sporting trophies, etc. The Public Works Department basinformed tbe Executive Committee that it proposes to exhibit a large collection of native timber, stones, and other building materia lo , and also models of Arthur’s Pass, showing tbe projected tunnel.
Tbe Government have stated their in; tention of erecting in the grounds a model workman’s home, with model sanitary appliances. At a meeting of the printing and advertising committee held on Monday last matters in connection with a memorial stamp of the exhibition were discuss d. A sub-committee was set up to arrange a suitable design for the stamps, and to make the . necessary arrangements with the Postal Depa-.tment. When issued the stamp will be available for use as an ordinary postage stamp. Instructions have been Bent to tbe High Commissioner in London to arrange with Messrs Pain end Co Lr displijs of fire works during the exhibition period, and tbe sum oi ±I2OO has been authorised for th’s purpose.
