HARBOR MATTERS

The following suggestions were made at the special meeting of the Harbor Board by Mr Whim-ay, who protested strongly against the Board not giving Mr Reynolds broad linos to go upon. 1. Mr Reynolds to report to the Board v. hat further works are required to give the best results for river improvement, and the cost. 2. The quantity of rock and silt that would have to be removed to give a uniform depth of 12ft of water at low tide.

3. As to the advisability of reclaim'

ing that portion on the Haiti side, taking the trainingwall with a slightly concave line to Haiti bridge to a line to be determined connecting with present Haiti wharf.

I 4<. And report as to cost and probable effect of continuing the present wharf on the town side from just above the stock yard to the slip and I whether the wall of wharf should be open piles or a close training wall, and whether shipping moored there would be likely to have any injurious effect upon the scour. 5. And generally to advise the Board as to the best and most economical means of obtaining the best results on the above lines together with approximate cost.

6. And I think it would be wise to have a report as to the best site for a deep water harbor outside as a colonial work in conjunction with the Board. After an animated discussion the original resolution was carried as follows That before dealing with the question of the purchase of Mr Nelson’s pumping machine, the Board have a report fromia competent engineer as to the further operations of the Board on river improvements.”
