FOR MISCHIEF. fig.telegraph, Presa Ass’n, Copyright Received 10.58 p.m., Feb. 12. Capetown, Feb. 12. The murderers in the Riobmand dißtriot are Christianised Katlirs belonging to the Moelio tribo. They have abandoned their kraals and fled to tho bush, noar the source of the Umkomaß river. | It will be diflioult to briDg them to justice. Three hundred and fifty carbineers and a battery of field artillery have gone to the I scene of the disturbance. The attitude of the natives is threaten* I iof?* Small bodies of troops havo been distributed in tho country, possibly to obeck the movement, but it is considered that I more drastio mcamree are advisable. The troub 9 is connected almost equa'ly I with the ordinary hut tax and the new poll
tax. , The ODly.lmperiel troops in Natal are 200 belonging to the garrison regiment and stationed at Maritzhurg. It is thought that Imperial troopß ought to strengthen the garrison in towns and villages. The crops aro not ripe, whioh is a possible deterrent to an extended rising at present. Natives of Zulu and other territory are not affected with unrest,.but owing to the j outbreak originating as above it iB feared that the Ethiopian movement is already a power for mischief. Tho Cameron Highlanders at Protoria are proceeding to Mdritzburg. Offioial information is hopeful that the outbreak will prove purely local.
