(Per Press Association.) Auckland, Saturday. Daring tbe three weeks ending January 27th the Waihi Goldmining Company treated 23,294 tons of ore for bullion valoed at £54,310. Hawera, Saturday. Daniel MoEldowie, an elderly man, was before the Court this morning on a charge of burnmg a slaok of hay, valued at £2O, on the property of a neighbor, Duncan Poole, Matapu, on January 22nd. Between July let, 1905, and Jannacy 22nd, 1906, no fewer than seven ficßS occurred on Poole’s property, and on another occasion an alarm gun was smashed up. The various sheds, Btacks, etc., destroyed were uninsured, and the total loss was £3ll. At Matapu a coroner’s inquost was held, and the jury decided that the fires were wilfully caused, and grave suspioion rested upon McEtdowie, who was accordingly arrested, Accused was admitted to bail. Invercargill, Saturday.
At the annual meeting of the Southland Frozen Meat Company to-day the report showed a credit balanco on the year’s operations of £3976, making, with the balance from last year, a total amount at oredit of £6467. A dividend of 5 per cent, on the B and 2£ per cent, on the A shajres was passed, £3OOO placed to reserve, and £I7OO carried forward. The four-year-old daughter of James B. CosgroVe was fatally burnt at Keningtpn. Her clothes caught while she was playing near a fire outßide. Her mother was severely burnt abant the arms, whilst endeavoring to save her. The child’s clothes were practioally burnt off; she died seven hours later.
