Speaking at a social tendered to Mr Wilford, at the Upper Hutt, last night, the Premier, referring to immigration, said he believed there was room in New Zealand
j for all who might come, but he made an I appeal on behalf of these of kindred blood. The tima wan opportune, he said, to advise his hearers to be true to their owo. race. I Whatever might happen, they must look to racial purity and resist each and every attempt that might be made in the opposite direction, for there were those who for their own interests would move in that direction. “ Let us work out our own destinies,” Mr Seddon continued, 1 and the people of I New Zealand can work out theirs best by being true to the race from which they spring. Coe of your troubles to day is getting undue competition from the low wage-paying countries, and countries within whose boundaries thoße who toil are far from beiDg in the same favored condition in whioh you are placed. It is that keen competition which is hampering and injuring many of tho artisan class in New Zealand.”
