The weekly official review of the progress of the New Zealand International Exhibition states that tenders for the erection of the machinery hall for the exhibition must be sent into the Executive Committee’s office by four o’clock on Tuesday, the 13th day of February instant.
Applications for space continue to come in from all parts, and a considerable number have lately been received from Australia.
Tho Executive Commissioners visited the exhibition grounds this week to select a space for athletic and other Bports during the exhibition, and they have chosen a spot comprising about five acres, which is situated Dear the Bpace selected for the machinery hall. A strong committee of the Scotch Society has been formed, and they are in communication with other Scotoh Societies in Australia with a view to gettiDg the best representative pipers and dancers to compete at the New Zealand International Exhibition sports. Fresh tenders for the lighting of the exhibition close on Saturday next,the 10th instant, at tho Exeoutive Commissioners’ offices at noonThe tender of Messrs Jamieson Bros, for the concert hall of the exhibition has been acoepted, subject to certain modifications of tbeir plans.
Tbe Mines Department having notified their intention of exhibiting a model mining plant, the Commissioners have selected a site suitable for the purpose.
Arrangements are in progress with a view of engaging Madam Dolores for a series of ooncerts in tbe Exhibition Concert Hall. Dates have been pencilled in connection with various operatio, dramatic. and other performances during the Exhibition period. The Hon, Sir J. G. Ward has appointed Messrs Thomas Cook and Sons the offioial passenger agents to tbe New Zealand International Exhibition. The Eight Hon. the Premier has received a letter from the Premier of Queensland, stating that he has much pleasure in aooepting tbe position of Commissioner for the State of Queensland in connection with the New Zealand International Exhibition.
At a meeting of the Military Affairs Committee it was decided to recommend the Executive to approach the Government with a view of having a defence court at the Exhibition.
The Selling Keports Committee have recommended that tbe Government shall instruct tbe High Commissioner in Dondon to arrange with Messrs Pain and Co. for a number of displays of fireworks during the Exhibition, commencing at the latter end of December, and terminating at the oloso of the Exhibition, tbe series to consist of six special and twelve ordinary displays.
