I The Defence Department has been I informed of tho arrangement made by the War Offioe with the Japanese Government, under whioh four British oflioors will be soleotod annually for two years’ study and | reßidenoo in Japan. When the officers have been four months in the country, they will be required to pass a colloquial tost in language. The second examination, oral and written, will bB held when a year has been spent. During the second year’s study the officers will be under the orders of the military attache at Tokio, to whom they will have to send diaries every month. Tho final examination which the officers’ departure is to relate to general powers, conversation in Japanese,, and knowledge of military history and taotios in the Far East.
