NEW LIFE IN TOE CITY,

NelsoD, last night,

The city is full of visitors for the carnival, steamers having brought large numbers during the past week, and about 800 arriving to-day. The carnival was originally iotendod as a celebration of Trafalgar Centenary, but tho season being inoonvenieDt it was decided to bold the same at the time of the Nelson anniversary, and a full week's festivities were arranged. The proceedings began to day with a church parade, attended by volunteers and Diemen, including representatives to the fire brigades’ conference, as well as the bands taking part iu the band contest. Those in the parade had to proceed tc several churches. To day has been rather showery, but bopo3 are entertained for fine weather. The oity is gaily decorated w th buotirg. palms, eto.
