Swarms of rabbits recently infested the Springfield tank, Cobar. Asa resuit of the use of arsenic between 40,000 and 50,000 of them were killed. It is esteemed that arsenic-poisoned water has been the cause of the de» struction of millions of rabbits in the .Cobar district in the last two months. A young man named Percy Cham* berlain, while escorting a young lady friend home at Ballarat, Victoria, was surrounded by a gang of larrikins, | who used insulting language. Several j endeavored to assault him, and in defending himself he thrust a knife into the arm of a youth named Herbert James Beece. An ugly wound was inflicted, eloso to the main artery, and Beece was taken to the Hospital. He was weak from loss of blood, and was admitted in a serious condition.
