A DISHONEST WOMAN.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night.
Violet HendersOD, a single woman, pleaded guilty in the Police Court this . morning to a charge of having stolen a quantity of clothing, a writing oase, and pair of opera glasses, valued altogether at £lO. Chief Detective Marsaok stated that the owner of the stolen property, Mrs Baxter, had stayed with her husband in a Wellington hotel last December. They left for a few days, and acoussd was put into their room, where some of Mrs Baxter’s boxes remained. When the Baxters returned the aiticles were miesad, and aeoused had then gone to Auckland, She was arrested at Rotorua on another theft charge, and the whole of the property missing from the Wellington hotel was found in her possession. - , Before dealing with the accused on this charge, the Magistrate heard evidence in connection with an indictable offence to which the aeoused pleaded guilty, that on January 11th she had atolen £29 in notes and coin, and two gold brooches, valued at £3O. from the dwelling of John McKenzie, at Ngongatiha, near Rotorua. John M. McKenzie stated that at the end of December accused entered his employ as a general servant. She left on January lltb, and it was found that £2O in money and two brooches were missing. Accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. , His Worship said he would convict and reserve decision upon the ohargo of theft , from the Wellington hotel until accused 1 had come before the Judge.
